Sensory Haus
YEAR 3 GROUP PROJECT
Sensory Haus is a collaborative project, that aims to investigate if IADT should have a sensory room on campus for students with and without sensory disorders and explore what students would want to see and use in a sensory room.

What is a Sensory Room?
A sensory room is a therapeutic space with a variety of equipment and tools that aims to provide students with and without special needs with personalized sensory input. The aim is to facilitate calm and focus , allowing students to relax themselves so they can be better prepared for learning and interacting with others.
Sensory Spaces are primarily designed for people on the autism spectrum as the space assists in helping people with ASD self_reugakte their emotions in engage in activites in stimulating but calm environment.
Why a Sensory Room?
Sensory spaces can benefit all students, especially those who have been exposed to trauma, chronic stress and those with specified sensory needs. They can provide a safe environment where the student can be supported to calm and regulate, therefore optimising learning and participation in the school environment.
Other Irish Institutions have already acknowledged the benefits of sensory rooms can provide to their students and how they can add to their environment and we felt IADT could follow suit.
Aims and Goals
We aim to:
-
Create a sensory space on campus.
-
Promote this space.
-
Survey students before and after on their wants and needs for this space.
-
Demonstrate to students how beneficial this space could be.
Our primary goal is to build a body of evidence that the IADT students want a sensory space on campus. A space like this would benefit all students and add QoL to neurodiverse students across all courses.
